Dance started for me almost by accident. After an archaeological field season in the Dominican Republic, I decided I really ought to learn how to dance. That decision led me to Cuban salsa - and almost twenty years later, I’m still exploring. What has always drawn me to dance is connection: with the music, with another person, and with the people around you. I love the playfulness of social dancing - that moment when two people can improvise, challenge each other, laugh and create something together without saying a word. Over the years I’ve explored Cuban salsa, rueda, LA and New York salsa, bachata, kizomba and zouk, both socially and as a teacher and performer. But my heart keeps returning to Cuban dance. Its richness, musicality and freedom continue to fascinate me, and lately I’ve especially enjoyed diving deeper into Afro-Cuban movement and culture. For me, there is always something more to discover - and half the joy is sharing that discovery with others.
