Social floor etiquette every dancer should know
Good etiquette is not stuffy. It is what keeps a packed floor safe, welcoming, and fun for everyone on it.

Etiquette on the social floor is not about rules for their own sake. It is the quiet agreement that lets strangers dance closely and safely all night. Most of it is common sense — but it is worth saying out loud.
Protect your partner
- Own your space. Keep turns compact on a crowded floor; clipping elbows is on the leader, not the room.
- Adjust to the person, not the playlist. Read your partner’s level and dance to it.
- Hygiene is kindness. Fresh shirt, deodorant, a towel. Nobody regrets bringing them.
Consent runs both ways
Anyone can decline a dance, no reason needed, and a “no” is never personal. Equally, if a dance feels uncomfortable, it is always fine to end it with a smile and a thank-you.
Leave it better
Thank your partner, walk them off the floor, and welcome the newcomers — you were one not long ago. A scene is only as warm as the people already in it.
