The Dutch festival calendar: salsa & bachata weekenders
A weekend festival can do more for your dancing than a month of classes. Here is how to pick — and survive — your first.

Three days of workshops, shows and socials that run until sunrise: a festival is the Netherlands’ dance scene at full volume. Your first one can feel overwhelming, so go in with a plan rather than trying to do everything.
Choosing one
- Match the level. Some festivals are pro-heavy; others are warm and beginner-friendly.
- Check the music. A salsa-forward line-up and a sensual-bachata one are very different weekends.
- Look at the socials, not just the workshops — that is where the magic actually happens.
Surviving the weekend
Sleep is a tactic, not a weakness. Pace your workshops, hydrate more than feels necessary, pack two pairs of shoes, and skip the session you are too tired to enjoy. The 3am social will still be there.
Plan ahead
Festivals sell out and travel adds up, so book early. Scan the calendar for the next few weekenders and claim your spot before the early-bird passes vanish.
